'THE SLAB' MADE THE HUNTERS AND COLLECTORS TURN FERAL

It really makes it hard when you dont have a foppin' clue what you are writing about (laugh), i generally try to write about songs and albums that make at least some degree of sense but i have to admit, the HUNTERS AND COLLECTORS early 80`s beer drinking ode THE SLAB doesn't make one iota of sense to me in the lyric department, i reckon these guys must have been knocking back a few too many VB's when they recorded the music and video for it (laugh).

Classed as a blend of pub rock and art funk, HUNTERS AND COLLECTORS were always a heady mixture of eccentric percussion, out of kilter bass guitar and some dare to be diffrent singing by band leader MARK SEYMOUR. I am not a big fan of H&C actually, far too tin pots and pans for my liking, it would only be in 1993 when the band recorded the oft times utilised footy anthem HOLY GRAIL that it served up another song that took my fancy.

THE SLAB was officially released as BETTY'S WORRY OR THE SLAB but it didn't take long for fans to re-christen the song with the abbreviated title. The video clip is the ultimate portrayal of aussie beer swindling and aussie occa macho man attitude, besides the erratic and weird bass line driving the song along the only thing weirder is the video clip. I think Mark Seymour slipped a few down before he was seen in the video crossing a busy road carrying a SLAB of beer.
