BILLY JOEL AND STEVE WINWOOD WERE 'GETTING CLOSER'

Dont ask me why, but the song GETTING CLOSER by BILLY JOEL, which comes off his highly popular 1987 album THE BRIDGE, has been completely forgotten about, obviously even by Joel's biggest fans. Besides the ballsy melodic rocker A MATTER OF TRUST, which peaked at number 10 on the US Top 100 chart, GETTING CLOSER is my next favourite tune. Judging by some of the comments made to this You Tube video, it appears that the guest appearance of STEVE WINWOOD on this song, who plays Hammond B-3, remains unknown. Until now of course, Tim Badrick has opened yet another can of worms (laugh). BILLY JOEL swaps a piano for a Fender Rhodes on GETTING CLOSER, the dual between him and STEVE WINWOOD playing the Hammond B-3 creates a wall of classic freewheeling jazzy rhythm and blues. Lyrically the song seems to be a personal account on Joel's part of being a victim of conmen or an investment gone wrong, and how he was 'getting closer' to getting his life back on track after being taken down by the crooks.
