LITTLE CHARLIE SINGING ABOUT HITTING THE SKIDS WITH WIFE NO. 2
Described as being a mixture of 40`s swing jazz and his own interpretation of funk, LITTLE CHARLIE, along with his backing band THE NIGHTCATS, pretty well invented the genre which is known as California skip blues. The sound of Charlie certainly draws just as much on funk as trad blues, although the band's sound is unmistaking and highly original. I have a LITTLE CHARLIE AND THE NIGHTCATS best of buried somewhere, been years since i played that disc, but the song MY NEXT EX WIFE features as a stand alone song on an ALLIGATOR RECORDS compilation, which as you would guess is, or was, the band's long term label. I just played it ten minutes ago and i thought it deserved a resurrection on Lost Treasures. From memory it was one of the standout tracks on the best of which i cant find right at this moment. As the song title suggests, LITTLE CHARLIE had a very healthy amount of pessimism when it come to what chance he thought he had of not breaking Elizabeth Taylor's record for marriages that hit the skids.
