DAN REED NETWORK DOIN' THE LOVE THING

Sorry i dont have a video to go with this, you'll have to settle for an image of the album cover instead. DAN REED NETWORK was a multi-racial funk rock and at times funk metal band which sprung up out of nowhere at the end of 80`s with a critically acclaimed but commercially unsuccessful self titled debut album. A few tracks off the 1988 album are the best funk rock songs ever recorded, the best ones to mind being RITUAL, RESURRECT and ROCK YOU ALL NIGHT LONG. Band leader and vocalist DAN REED had something going with the letter R. The second DAN REED NETWORK album titled SLAM emerged three years later in 1991, in place of the acclaimed hard rock producer BRUCE FAIRBAIRN, who produced their debut and had previously worked with BON JOVI, the band opted for the services of NILE RODGERS, a lot diffrent character to Fairbairn who was anything but a Robert John 'Mutt' Lange like perfectionist. Surprisingly, SLAM was less funky than the debut, despite having the more funk attuned RODGERS at the production helm, with only a few songs reaching the standard set by the less workmanlike debut album. One song off SLAM which i rate as one of the great heavy rock guitar tunes, up there with AIN'T TALKING BOUT LOVE by VAN HALEN and PLEIADES by KINGS X, is DOIN THE LOVE THING. African american guitarist BRION JAMES puts Eddie Van Halen's post 1983 performances to shame with this lightning bolt jam. DOIN' THE LOVE THING really rocks man!
