KATRINA BURGOYNE IS NOT AN AUSTRALIAN COUNTRY MUSIC SNOB SO GET BEHIND HER AUSTRALIA
Be a sport Tim, be a sport! No offence to Katrina Burgoyne but i have my reasons for being wary of entering the domain of australian country music, thanks mainly to the paranoia of a certain country music DJ who i had a dummy spit on Facebook with over some trivial misunderstanding, and i guess you might say the profound lack of appreciation you normally can expect as a writer when you try and do a good deed and write something to promote an australian country music artist. I have tried it a few times before but not for a very long time, to be honest i have been pretty pissed off most of the time when i have written about a lesser known australian musician, and not just country, because there has been absolutely no such thing as 'thanks Tim' or any form of appreciation. So for the most part i just haven't bothered to waste my time - basically. But Katrina Burgoyne is a nice country girl, i know that, and she is not entrenched in the 'star system' elitist crowd that ignores writers like me because we are not quite famous enough for their snobby tastes. For many australian country musicians, their fantasies about striking it big in Nashville seems to overwhelm their rationale to keep their feet on the ground in Australia and be thankful for any grassroots support which gives them the oppurtunity to make the big time, whether that be their diehard fans who turn up to their lowly pub and club gigs when the venue is three-quarters empty, or writers like me who endeavour to support them in an alternative but no less complimentary manner. The last i knew, Katrina had shifted down to northern New South Wales with partner Michael Muchow, who happens to be an accomplished country/country fusion guitarist, following a brief stay in Queensland. Katrina originally come from Gunnedah in New South Wales. Her debut album WHITE FLAG recieved rave reviews from fans and country DJ's alike, and the first song taken off it as a single GHOST is a hauntingly special tune, pardon the paranormal pun. Katrina is a powerful country singer, perhaps a little subdued for her first album but really capable of belting it out if she wants to. Her next installment will be a strong indicator as to whether or not she is prepared to compromise artistically for the lure of making it big in Nashville over the long haul.
