WHITE RABBIT BY JEFFERSON AIRPLANE THE ULTIMATE IN FLOWER POWER WEED SMOKING ROCK'N'ROLL
A few months back i wrote a blog about the JEFFERSON STARSHIP song FIND YOUR WAY BACK from 1981. The response to it as far as views go has been absolutely excellent by my modest standards, in that blog i also mentioned the song where it all began for the original incarnation of JEFFERSON STARSHIP when they were the kings and queen (queen being a reference to singer GRACE SLICK) of San Francisco flower power weed smoking rock'n'roll (laugh). JEFFERSON AIRPLANE are probaly more rememberable for their cultural influence on west coast 60`s hippie culture in California rather than being an influence on other psychedelic rock acts, but the band was still a major influence on acts like THE GRATEFUL DEAD, BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD, even PAUL MCCARTNEY and JOHN LENNON in the post REVOLVER era when THE BEATLES were swapping short back and sides haircuts and boys meets girl rock'n'roll for mop tops, Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds and psychedelic perversion. That's a bit harsh of me, but i am a passionate detractor of SERGEANT PEPPERS LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND, i hate the most famous album ever recorded so much (laugh). The three best mid 60`s experimental albums in my opinion are SURREALISTIC PILLOW by JEFFERSON AIRPLANE, PET SOUNDS by THE BEACH BOYS and my favourite of all - SAFE AS MILK by CAPTAIN BEEFHEART. I absolutely hate THE BEACH BOYS, especially the incredibly annoying BARBARA ANN, i need to take a pill whenever i hear that song (laugh). But i really like half of PET SOUNDS, especially the songs GOD ONLY KNOWS and SLOOP JOHN B, and the 1988 BRIAN WILSON solo album. JEFFERSON AIRPLANE's output was always very muddled, convoluted and lyrically tailor made for narcotic junkies, but the band's most famous song, WHITE RABBIT, is the apex of psychedelic 60`s rock.
