PRINCE HAD A THING FOR PEACH AND CREAM
Long before PRINCE renounced decadence and become a reborn Jehovah's Witness in more recent years, he had carved out a career and a string of albums which for the most part courted a great deal of controversy, mainly due to highly sexualised lyrics which almost made the world's most revered funk rocker pass as the world's most dirtiest shock rocker. Like veteran heavy metal band METALLICA, PRINCE has gone to great lengths to stop internet downloads of his music, even to the point of practically preventing You Tube from even displaying it. Not even METALLICA has gone that far to thwart such freeloading. I am not a big fan of PRINCE, certainly not enough to be concerned that i cant download the song PEACH, which is my third favourite PRINCE song behind CREAM and DIAMONDS AND PEARLS. My rationale for naming these three songs as my favourite PRINCE tunes is that they represent the best funk rock song he ever recorded - CREAM, the best white soul song he ever recorded - DIAMONDS AND PEARLS and the best heavy rock guitar song he ever recorded - PEACH. I got to say the epic LET'S GO CRAZY off the PURPLE RAIN soundtrack is desperately unlucky to not make my my top 3, it is a blistering piece of dance power rock, i guess you would call the song heavy rock guitar, but PEACH is heavier and just rocks harder. Strangely, PEACH as a single was a commercial lemon, even in the United States. The woman's voice in PEACH who provides the background moaning and groaning (laugh) is that of Hollywood babe KIM BASSINGER, man oh man would i have loved to jump bones with her in my time. PRINCE was a great guitarist in his time, but for the most part, his albums were always consumed by self indulgent doowop and insipid watered down pop and soul. DIAMONDS AND PEARLS (1991) was by far his most accomplished and consistent album, with a much more dense and fullsome sound than any of his 80`s albums. PRINCE never recovered from his ill advised tangent of renaming himself THE ARTIST FORMERLY KNOWN AS PRINCE, it was so ridiculous it was funny. PEACH comes off his two 1993 compilations - THE HITS 2 and THE HITS - THE B-SIDES. Basically the song is built around standard 12-bar blues with PRINCE putting his own heavy rock guitar spin on it.
