RAT SALAD ALL ROUND BUT NO BLACK SABBATH

Black Sabbath obviously were a huge influence on heavy rock headbangers over the years, especially the PARANOID album, which is considered by most old school fans as the definitive album from the OZZIE OSBOURNE era of the band. The first two albums from the RONNIE JAMES ERA of the band, HEAVEN AND HELL and MOB RULES, are rated a lot higher by most metal critics than all the post-Paranoid Osbourne albums. But in the space of one album in 1970, Ozzie Osbourne made himself one of the most famous heavy metal vocalists in history, the PARANOID album producing such timeless headbanger classics like IRON MAN, WAR PIGS, HAND OF DOOM, FAIRIES WEAR BOOTS and the slightly radio friendly all time metal classic title track. The album was originally intended to be titled WAR PIGS, but given the sensitivity around 1970 with the Vietnam War in full swing the band's record company decreed that PARANOID would be a more suitable title track. Reportedly the title track was written in around 20 minutes and recorded in roughly the same shotgun timeframe. Obviously BLACK SABBATH was a huge influence on the headbangers who are members of the California based band RAT SALAD, because they generally stick to playing covers of the famous brit band and RAT SALAD is a generally overlooked instrumental track off the Paranoid album. These guys actually do a great job of replicating the sound of the real thing, even on occasions they argubaly sound better, especially when they cover songs off the not so good BS albums in the 70`s besides PARANOID, and there's a few of them. Here is RAT SALAD performing RAT SALAD, it always was a bit of a copycat job of Led Zep's MOBY DICK but it still rocks.
