PETER 'WYOMING' BENDER THE COMANCHE KEYBOARDIST (IN GERMAN)

I cant understand a word the guy is singing but this 1970`s performance by PETER 'WYOMING' BENDER, an american of comanche indian heritage, is an indication of just what a great singer he was, but was never given due credit for. Bender was in fact a much in demand session musician during the late 60`s and early 70`s, his most illustrious employment being with the SPENCER DAVIS GROUP as a tour only backing member. It was during this period when Bender got a taste for the european concert circuit, and being fluent in german, he garnered a loyal and hardcore following in Germany and neighbouring countries as a solo artist. It possibly could be argued that Bender was in fact a huge influence on STEVE WINWOOD and not the other way around, and that he was a seminal figure in the development of progressive rock, albeit in a very marginal way. Certainly Bender was highly regarded as a progressive keyboardist, otherwise i am sure Winwood and the rest of the SPENCER DAVIS GROUP wouldn't have utilised him as a sessionist. This article all come about very spontaneously after i went digging on Google for some info on Bender's instrumental masterpiece from the 90`s titled CANYON DRUMS, where he traded his keyboard for native american indian drums and a set of songs which payed homage to his comanche heritage. In 2005, he garnered rave reviews for another likeminded album - BORN TO BE INDIAN. Despite reasonable commercial success in Europe, Bender continues to be snubbed in the United States, perhaps indicative of the overall ignorance the greater majority of caucasian americans have towards the plight of american indians today and the legacy they left behind.
