QUEENSRYCHE WERE TAKING AIM AT THE EMPIRE IN WASHINGTON D.C

Tiananmen Square, the place in Beijing where the Chinese Communist Party sent in the tanks and ordered the massacre of pro-democracy demonstrators in 1989 and the blissful waste of billions of dollars on needless space exploration by the Reagan-Bush administration during the 80`s were just two topics that canadian progressive metal band QUEENSRYCHE touched on in the title track of their definitive 1990 album EMPIRE. The band's most well known song, SILENT LUCIDITY, controversial because of its lucid dream theme and perception it promoted mind altering experimental drug use, also comes off the EMPIRE album. EMPIRE the song packs a mighty wallop, more in the power rock category than speed metal, like much of the band's earlier recordings. Obviously QUEENSRYCHE were intentionally trying to send a very powerful message straight to the White House about the disparacy in federal funding in the Reagan-Bush era which resulted in NASA receiving the lions share of money from Washington D.C while law enforcement agencies and the police service across the US got sweet F all by comparison. Considering EMPIRE was written and recorded before the '91 Gulf War, the Iraq invasion a decade later and Afghanistan, one could imagine QUEENSRYCHE could have written a song titled EMPIRE 2 covering all the wasted billions spent on useless wars by Bush Jr. and Barack Obama since September 11, 2001. The war on terror always should always include a war on reckless expenditure by both Republican and Democrat administrations, regardless of who is president and which party holds the majority in Congress.
