MR. MISTER BOMBED OUT BIG TIME WITH GO ON

This is the first of two short articles i am going to write about american 80`s pop rock band MR. MISTER, who stormed to the top of the music charts in 1985 with the synth laden melodic rock masterpiece WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD. This album produced the band's two mega successful hit singles BROKEN WINGS and KYRIE. It's always hard work for a band to back up and record an album in the shadow of such a defining album, but MR. MISTER returned in 1987 with a much more progressive rock and much less pop rock sounding album titled GO ON. Although this album displayed a much greater maturity and musical diversity than their 1985 charttopper, it was a commercial flop, which was a great shame, because there are some really beautiful songs on GO ON which deserve to be played on the radio and heard by the masses. WATCHING THE WORLD has a galloping chorus melody not totally unlike what you'd hear from AOR band NIGHT RANGER, the atmospheric ballad THE POWER OF ME is just as good as any slow song GENESIS recorded post 1980, great progressive rock dynamics. THE TUBE is wholly original and experimental, a far cry from AOR or Top 40 pop. MAN OF A THOUSAND DANCES gives full range to vocalist Richard Page's soulful prowess, while HEALING WATERS, the feature song above, is such good white man's soul you almost could believe a black church choir is providing the backing vocals. Takes nearly a minute to find its stride, but HEALING WATERS is a beautiful 80`s pop song. Why the album GO ON bombed out is anyone's guess - not even the band's hardcore american audience took to it. Every single christian radio station in america should be playing it at the very least.
