STEVE EARL APPLIED SOME SNAKE OIL AND SLIPPED INTO SOME R&B
STEVE EARL has recorded many albums since starting out way back in 1982, the San Antonian has even dabbled in acting, been married seven times, been arrested and jailed for heroin, cocaine and weapons possession and is a passionate opponent of capital punishment and is an advocate for Vietnam veterans in america. He certainly has lived an interesting life, but for most australians, he is mainly known for one single solitary song - COPPERHEAD ROAD, the title track of his 1988 album. Earl was always very much inspired by WAYLON JENNINGS and JOHNNY CASH, usually he's stuck to the rock country format, not country rock, his brand of barroom country music is for the most part edgy and always straddling a fine line between country and R&B, COPPERHEAD ROAD remaining by far the heaviest and straight down the line rock song he ever recorded. SNAKE OIL is the only other what you would call R&B song on the COPPERHEAD ROAD album, the other songs besides these two are more in the workmanlike country category.
