THE STORY OF... ON SOUND VAULT RECORDS A REAL MUSICAL ENIGMA
Some of the best australian albums in my collection are very obscure, and one which fits that description perfectly is a very hard to find multi-artist compilation album released on the SOUND VAULT RECORDS label in 2006 titled THE STORY OF... The story of what you are probaly asking right now, well i am afraid to tell you that's it. Not many names ring a bell with me besides revered songwriter PETER CUPPLES, who features on the album with POOR MANS AL JONSON. ROSS WILSON, the frontman of DADDY COOL and MONDO ROCK makes a guest appearance with a band called HEY GRINGO for the opening track CANT LOVE MYSELF, which i rate my favourite song. Other bands and artists which contribute a song to this 'sampler greatest hits' collection are THE PROVIDERS with COLD HARD LIGHT OF DAY, ROSS RYAN with COOL RIVER, THE CHARCOAL CLUB with COMING HOME, ROB DRAPER with COMING HOME, MCSWEENY with HANGING and BILL JACKSON with ENIGMA. I really dont have a clue who any of these artists as well as a few others are, but the songs compliment each other exceptionally well, a great mix of country, folk, rhythm and blues and a bit of pub rock as well. It's very uncategorisable, nothing on the album was ever going to be hit single material, but personally i like it more than KENNY G for some cool and breezy background music when i get sick of hard rock and listening to OH MICKEY YOU'RE SO FINE (laugh).
