BOUND FOR GLORY BY ANGRY ANDERSON MAY HAVE BEEN WRITTEN FOR ANTHONY 'MOTORMOUTH' MUNDINE
The short and stocky bally headed australian pub rock legend ANGRY ANDERSON is best known as the lead singer for seminal punk rock band ROSE TATTOO, whose self titled album in 1978, which included the classic boogie rock of BAD BOY FOR LOVE, ROCK'N'ROLL OUTLAW and NICE GUYS is still considered to be one of the greatest pub rock albums ever recorded in Australia. The band's image was more punk than the band's music output, but nonetheless ROSE TATTOO were renowned for being very loud and very heavy, and in 1978, that made you pass for a punk rock band. SCARRED FOR LIFE (1982), the band's third album, produced the trademark and definitive tune WE CANT BE BEATEN, the band going into hiatus following the BEATS FROM A SINGLE DRUM album in 1986. Lead singer Angry Anderson in particular had developed such a strong underground following in the US, particularly amongst members of hard rock and metal bands. AXEL ROSE once said that GUNS AND ROSES would have never formed had it not been for ROSE TATTOO. How a pub rock band from Sydney could have been such an influence on the bad boy of 80`s rock from Indiana is incredible, but it says something about the power and ferocity of Rose Tattoo's simple but brutal boogie rock. Around 1990, Angry Anderson recorded a solo album titled BOUND FOR GLORY in LA, supposedly this time around the shoe was on the other foot, he was the one being inspired by Guns and Roses. Whether that is true or not i cant be sure, but Angry has said that recording it definitely motivated him to wanting to reform ROSE TATTOO after the 1986 disbandment. Here is the title track of the album, BOUND FOR GLORY was a minor hit on the australian rock chart in 1990, and rumour has it that a very young ANTHONY MUNDINE, the one time rugby league player and now a boxer who calls himself 'The Man', the one most australians call `Motormouth', is who inspired ANGRY to write it.
