ARTHUR DUNGER WAS GETTING FIT AND GETTING A BONER DOING BANANA LOUNGE SIT UPS

PAUL HOGAN could either be funny or very unfunny and over pretentious. The show which made him a household name on australian TV in the late 70`s and very early 80`s, THE PAUL HOGAN SHOW, exemplified that fact.

The show was made up of short pisstake skits which were either shot on location or in the studio before a live audience, as well as countless attempts by Hogan at doing stand-up comedy the aussie occa way, not the Jerry Seinfeld way or Raymond Romano way.

Being the 70`s before the feminazi mob got their way and political correctness descended upon this once easy going, put a shrimp on the barby country we once lived in, Paul Hogan got away with blue murder on his show by being blatantly rude, crude and sexist to the extreme.

Many of his one line jokes fell flat but as far as slapstick goes, Hoges on occasions was the master. This particular skit by Hoges with him playing his most renowned alter ego character, ARTHUR DUNGER, called GETTING FIT, is most likely my favourite skit ever on the PAUL HOGAN SHOW.

It's his definitive performance, in much the same way SEINFELD fans might rate FESTIVUS FOR THE REST OF US as being the ultimate episode of the most popular comedy show in history.

Hoges' brand of humour was always a lot rougher around the edges than american comedy, but with a shoestring budget and the most primitive of stage sets, he still managed to change the face of australian TV culture forever with his shenanigan sideshow.

GETTING FIT sees Hoges showing us all how to get fit with the help of trick photography, he gets slapped by an old girl who he mockingly spars with on the street, and to end the skit off, he goes back to the studio where an absolutely gorgeous blonde dressed in a red bikini gives Hoges a good look at her hooters while he does some banana lounge sit ups in front of the live studio audience.
