TOMMY BOLIN LOVED BEING A SLOW DRIVER IN THE BEDROOM
TOMMY BOLIN should be an american guitar legend, despite his untimely death from a drug overdose in 1976 at age 25 after he replaced RITCHIE BLACKMORE in english hard rock band DEEP PURPLE. That his musical legacy remains an obscurity, even in the eyes of some of the world's greatest rock guitarists over the past three decades, is both odd and perplexing. Although his decision to join the Purps proved to be personally and artistically destructive, Bolin's pre-Purps recordings in many cases deserve a much better hearing than what the self annointed rock critic affectionios in a myriad amount of music magazines have given him over the years. Okay, Bolin wasn't Hendrix but he certainly was in the same league as NEIL YOUNG during the early 70`s. He was at his most innovative when corroborating with jazz fusion artists such as BILLY COBHAM, listen to the album SPECTRUM for proof of that, and jazz fusion flutist JEREMY STEIG, the totally left of field song SISTER ANDREA featuring Bolin on guitar, JAN HAMMER on keyboards and BILLY COBHAM on drums i personally rate as one of the most way out there and eery pieces of jazz fusion ever recorded. On the flipside of such experimental recordings, Bolin could surprise you with simple bluesey acoustic tunes, many of which were destined to remain demos, like SLOW DRIVER, which comes off the album TOMMY BOLIN FROM THE ARCHIVES VOL. 2. Saucy, provocative and dare i say dirty. Depending on the woman this song might get her in the mood for a bit of all night action.
