WARNING : THIS ALANNAH MYLES FILM CLIP IS 'BAD 4 YOU'
The 1997 album A RIVAL by canadian singer-songwriter ALANNAH MYLES was a commercial flop outside her native Canada, where it only just scraped into the top 40 on the albums chart. The album marked her departure from the Atlantic Records label and the her first and only outing on the minnow label ARK 21 Records, a subsidiary of Universal. It would also prove to be her last stand alone album for eleven years until BLACK VELVET surfaced, which featured a revamped and stripped down re-recording of her most famous song off her debut album in 1989 along with ten new songs. The monumental sabbatical between albums number four and five even made BOSTON look like prolific releasers of albums, jokes jokes. Myles did collaborate with swedish band K2 around 2005 in what proved to be an unsuccessful attempt to propel the band into the final of the EUROVISION SONG CONTEST with a song titled WE GOT IT ALL in what is known in Sweden as MELODIFESTIVALEN, which is the swedish curtain raiser to Eurovision. A RIVAL arguably is Myles' most grainy and melodic effort since her debut self titled international blockbuster, especially evident on the raunchy single off the album titled BAD 4 YOU, which made the top 40 in Canada. Obviously Myles felt her flagging commercial fortunes could only be lifted by having a supremely naughty film clip to go with the song, and she didn't let anyone down who wanted to see her literally in the nude. Blimy man, Alannah Myles shows a lot of flesh in the BAD 4 VIDEO, enough to make any red blooded male go blind. Veteran producer DESMOND CHILD, known for his association with various metal acts over many years, co-wrote BAD 4 YOU and had a hand in recording it, along with little known knob puller ERIC BAZILIAN. By the way, BAD 4 YOU was even banned on the canadian TV program MUCH MUSIC because it was deemed to be 'too sexy for TV'. Fair dinkum, it makes the film clip to GIRLS ON FILM by DURAN DURAN look innocent.
