PETER GABRIEL KISSED A FROG AS PART OF THE 1994 WORLD TOUR

On record this song sounds so much diffrent to how it sounds here performed live on stage in Italy as part of his 1994 world tour. PETER GABRIEL was overshadowed during the 1980`s by the band he voluntarily quit in 1974, GENESIS, as well as the drummer who filled the vocal void he left the band with, PHIL COLLINS. Only a couple of hit singles in the 80`s like SHOCK THE MONKEY and BIG TIME rivalled the commercial success of GENESIS and solo Collins. Even though commercially Genesis outdone Gabriel in 1991 with their album WE CANT DANCE, artistically Gabriel come out looking a lot more inventive and visionary with his 1992 album US. It's an interesting blend of styles - a bit of world music, a bit of prog and a strong dose of new wave. Very eccentric in parts, even the more conventional moments are unlikely to appeal to a Phil Collins pop fan. Gabriel's vocal on the songs LOVED TO BE LOVED and BLOOD OF EDEN are superb, the rest of album, besides the new wave funked up track KISS THAT FROG are a bit too downbeat and self indulgent for all but the most ardent Gabriel fan. KISS THAT FROG sounds a lot more new wave on the album, with a more prominent harp and more jazzed up rhythm section the song live has a much more breezy and R&B feel about it. Gabriel could have rocked it up even more to make it sound as heavy as SLEDGEHAMMER but it still pumps.
