THE WHO - LIVE AT LEEDS

A very severe weather system has descended upon south-east Queensland, right now i am at my parents place in Brisbane and it's looking like there might be a black-out for anywhere up to two days. I have 29% battery back-up left as we speak, once that's run out i may well not be on my computer for a day or too. So off the cuff and very quickly i thought i`d rush through one which has been sitting in my draft menu for a week or so. As far as live albums go, LIVE AT LEEDS is considered by rock critics as being not only THE WHO's definitive statement but one of the greatest live albums of all time. ROGER DALTRY was really such a dorky pommy who somehow or another become the lead singer of the seminal proto-punk rock group, despite his goofiness he had his fair share of lovable english charisma. PETE TOWNSEND might have become a well spoken articulate englishman in his later life, but back in the wildest days of THE WHO, he really was a crazy son of a gun, especially when he went ballistic at the end of concerts and smashed his guitar. THE SEX PISTOLS might have been visually meaner but THE WHO musically made their late 70`s brand of punk look sissy. KEITH MOON never smashed and pounded his drums and cymbals anymore than what he did on LIVE AT LEEDS, the acoustics of Leeds University where the album was recorded on February 14th, 1970 were nothing short of perfect, Moon's drum echo is literally bouncing off the walls. Talk about a wall of ear piercing brutality, Moon was on fire here. John Entwistle minds his business like most bass players do but the live setting of Leeds University allowed his bass to be heard a lot better than on most studio albums of THE WHO. This is my favourite, i am running out of battery, haven't got time to mention other songs. enjoy A QUICK ONE WHILE HE'S AWAY, a hilarious parody of a cheating wife.
