WHATEVER MAKES YOU HAPPY BUT I'M GONNA LISTEN TO THIS POWDERFINGER SONG ALRIGHTY
About time i got back to aussie i thought and put a really great tune on here from a homegrown australian band. POWDERFINGER come to being in the early 90`s in the midst of the Seattle grunge/alternative rock explosion, with the help of Triple J radio the band got valuable airtime and gradually built up a loyal hardcore following in Australia, particularly in their native Brisbane. The first POWDERFINGER album to make people sit up and listen was the INTERNATIONALIST set, which despite its lyrical complexity and muscle was hamstrung by featherweight and undercooked production. ODYSSEY NUMBER FIVE, released in 2000, proved to be the crossover album that gave POWDERFINGER a much more commercial sounding edge, singer Bernard Fanning always having said that he found it difficult to write rock songs with a melodic hook. This album was only a warm up for the more straight laced pub rock influenced album VULTURE STREET, which was released a few years later. Here is a nice acoustic song that ends off ODYSSEY NUMBER FIVE, i chose it because it i rate it as one of Fanning's best vocals ever.
