SURVIVOR WERE BURNING BRIDGES BUT NOT SETTING THE BILLBOARD TOP 200 ALIGHT
Although lyrically meaningless and in most respects nothing more than a stadium rock filler, BURNING BRIDGES off the SURVIVOR album TOO HOT TO SLEEP in 1988 was one of the best songs from Survivor besides EYE OF THE TIGER, which of course become an international smash hit as part of the ROCKY 4 soundtrack.
TOO HOT TO SLEEP was in fact a commercial flop, it only just made the Billboard 200 and the title track single went absolutely nowhere. Being an AOR band, there was a fair bit of coming and going with personnel, without re-hashing the history of the band throughout the 80`s i can tell you that crack session drummer Mickey Curry, who was in BRYAN ADAMS' backing band, filled in for drums on this album after the permanent drummer got the bullet and was told to take a hike.
TOO HOT TO SLEEP was essentially a hard rock experiment for a normally more melodic AOR band, BURNING BRIDGES being one of the more heavier tunes. Singer JIMI JAMISON, who joined the band in 1984 after original singer DAVE BICKLER was forced to retire because of laranyx problems, was best known for his work with hard rockers COBRA.
BICKLER was the one who provided vocals for EYE OF THE TIGER, which was released in 1982. It wont ever go down as threatening Led Zeppelin for blues rock substance, and it certainly wasn't the most radio friendly set of songs in the 80`s, but TOO HOT TO SLEEP isn't quite as shithouse as the record sales would indicate (laugh).
