CAPTAIN BEEFHEART AND HIS MAGIC BAND GENERATE SOME ELECTRICITY ON THE BEACH AT BATON ROUGE
I think this is really funny stuff, the ultimate in 60`s quirkyness and eccentricity. Captain Beefheart and HIS Magic Band were a real unique piece of work in the psychedelic jigsaw puzzle of late 60`s cannabis and LSD fueled rock'n'roll, the song ELECTRICITY is actually my favourite piece of psychedelic rock full stop. It features on Captain Beefheart's debut 1967 record SAFE AS MILK, which all in all is a way out there trip into the acidland of San Francisco. The captain really was a crazy son of a bitch, he hung out with the likes of Zappa and Grace Slick and he though he wasn't the first psychedelic rocker, he was the best one of them all. Beefheart was always a lot more infuenced by blues than Frank Zappa and his band THE MOTHERS OF INVENTION, which were the biggest 60`s psychedelic band of them all from the US. Of course there was always talk that Frank Zappa once ate his own shit on stage, i am not sure if those rumours are true but it might explain why he ended up with a mighty big moustache. I hope he brushed his teeth and used Listerine. Getting off the subject aren't we! Here Captain Beefheart and HIS Magic Band are playing ELECTRICITY on the beach at Baton Rouge in Louisiana in the year of 1968, the footage takes 60`s musical experimentation to the extreme and makes Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band seem as tame as the Dave Clark Five.
