TIM'S TOP 20 PARTY ROCK SONGS : TRACK 13 - RECONSIDER BABY by ELVIS PRESLEY
It's more blues than rock'n'roll and more rock'n'roll than rock and there was no way knowing i was not going to include the ELVIS PRESLEY masterpiece RECONSIDER BABY in my Top 20 Party Rock songlist. The song formed part of an epic recording session in Nashville in March 1960 which also produced the breezy and soulfully raunchy IT FEELS SO RIGHT and the driving R&B of A MESS OF THE BLUES. To me, these three songs is the best blend of rock'n'roll and blues that Elvis ever recorded, the session taking place just after Elvis' first stint in the army following his barnstorming genre shattering explosion on the world stage during 1956 and 1957. RECONSIDER BABY has already been 'reviewed' on here, but last time it vanished without a trace and my blog barely got any lookers, so what better excuse can there be to reprise the song than to make it one of my favourite party rock songs. I love a lot of Elvis' old 50's rock'n'roll songs, but HOUND DOG, HEARTBREAK HOTEL and BLUE SUEDE SHOES isn't even in the contest up against this blues epic. The March 1960 session which produced the 3 songs was one of the very rare occasions where Elvis was allowed to fully let his hair down in the studio without being dictated to in some manner by his domineering manager COLONEL PARKER. Without a doubt, Elvis was having fun recording RECONSIDER BABY.
