TIM'S TOP 20 PARTY ROCK SONGS : TRACK 11 - NOTHIN BUT A GOOD TIME by POISON

Back in the day, around 1989 when POISON were glam rock gods and when every girl and half the boys at Rochedale State High School were under the spell of this band from LA, i was on the outer. I really had convinced myself that POISON really sucked (laugh). I jokingly use to tell people that the reason why i left Rochedale High in Grade 10 in '89 instead of going on to do senior was because i got sick of hearing about POISON in the playground. To be honest, the reason was actually a bit more sinister, i was the victim of some pretty bad bullying during Grade 9 and 10, and as i admitted years after i left school, POISON weren't so bad afterall, the bullying and picking probaly made me hate most things in high school, including the music that was trendy in that era. The breakthrough album for POISON was their second release OPEN UP AND SAY AHH, a multi-platinum worldwide smash. POISON were always as much rock'n'roll in their own kind of way as glam rock or pop metal, with a much more stripped down and earthy sound quite unlike the over-produced material you'd expect from MOTLEY CRUE or DEF LEPPARD. The band's lead singer and lyricist BRET MICHAELS always had the most uncanny ability to write songs with deeply personal themes but which never come across as being self indulgent, and unlike VINCE NEIL from fellow LA-er's MOTLEY CRUE, Michaels had a real blokey persona, just another bum from LA who accidently become a rock star. Hope Brett doesn't read this (laugh), i'm sure he'd have a laugh actually. Plenty of great party tunes off OPEN UP AND SAY AHH, but how could i go past NOTHING BUT A GOOD TIME as my favourite POISON song and one of my all time favourite party rock songs.
