TOTO - AOR GIANTS PERFORMING 'AFRAID OF LOVE' LIVE IN PARIS
Of all the 80`s bands sterotyped as AOR, my favourite has always been TOTO, a band made up of session musician journeymen who were in fact the complete backing band of 70`s pop souler BOZ SKAGGS before forming TOTO in 1977.
To my knowledge they (being the future members of Toto) also backed ARETHA FRANKLIN on some of her 70`s recordings. Desiring a band identity, these crack and perfectionist session musicians formed TOTO, and they would become one of the great, to me the greatest, adult orientated rock band in history.
RICHARD MARX once said that TOTO in concert was literally the ultimate experience of rock, soul and pop all colliding together on stage, and this 1990 live performance of AFRAID OF LOVE in Paris , which is a totally overlooked tune off the bands definitive 1982 album 4 (sorry no roman numerals on my keyboard), proves just what a euphoric stadium rock act TOTO were at the peak of the band's popularity as well as many years after.
TOTO never really recovered fully after the tragic death of ace drummer JEFF PORCARO in 1992, who was still alive when this performance took place in 1990.
