JOHN DENVER - THE FLOWER THAT SHATTERED THE STONE

Seriously, if i could only write about one artist and one artist only then JOHN DENVER would certainly be up there, off the top of my head i'd have to say BUDDY HOLLY and EVA CASSIDY would be a dead heat at the top of my list and ELVIS PRESLEY would come in at number 3, and then MUDDY WATERS at number 4 and CREDENCE CLEARWATER at number 5. FLEETWOOD MAC would probaly come in at number 6 and LED ZEPPELIN at number 7. WOLFMOTHER would be my no. 8 pick, but only a bee's dick (laugh) ahead of the 'early' VAN HALEN at no 9. ATM anyway, i'd probaly say CHICKENFOOT, that's Joe Satriani's and Sammy Hagar's Cabo Wabo supergroup, would sneak into my top 10. However, all that matters right now is that JOHN DENVER is my no. 2 artist of all time, i really loved the guy's music, he might have been a drunk and smoked a bit of marijuana in his time, maybe he did some bad things to his first wife Annie, but all in all, by the the time of his death in October, 1997 in a light plane crash off the coast of California, i think Denver had atoned himself for his marital misadventures and erratic behaviour while either intoxicated or under the influence of Mary J earlier in his life. The song THE FLOWER THAT SHATTERED THE STONE is without a doubt one of Denver's most beautiful and crystal clear vocal performances ever, but it barely scraped into the Top 200 chart in america. It has the distinction of not only appearing on five diffrent albums from 1988 until the early 90`s but also being the only post-1986 RCA single that even made the chart on Denver's independent label WINDSTAR. If John Denver was depressed at the time of his death i wouldn't have blamed him, vocally speaking he had recorded the best music of his career from 1988 onwards only to see it fail badly in commercial terms. The album that i have with THE FLOWER THAT SHATTERED THE STONE on it is 1990's EARTH SONGS, an album mainly comprised of modern and progressive sounding versions of some of his most famous 70`s hits, such as ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH, LEAVING ON A JET PLANE, CALYPSO, COLD NIGHTS IN CANADA and an absolute spine chilling, orchestra backed, epic re-invention of EAGLE AND THE HAWK.
