NEIL PEART OF RUSH PERFORMING HIS SIGNATURE DRUM SOLO 'THE RHYTHM METHOD'
If you have 8 minutes spare and go and put the kettle on for a cuppa or you are just a mad fan of drum solos you may well absolutely adore this music clip of seasoned Rush drummer Neal Peart bashing, tapping and talking to his drums, symbols and electronic keyboards on the exilirating THE RHYTHM METHOD. Outside the free jazz genre, this would have to be the most improvised and impossible to replicate musical performance there ever was and ever will be. There was and never will be any live performance of this drum solo by Peart which is exactly the same as another one, it is such a complex amalgam of rock, jazz and africana beats that only Peart himself and his visionary mind could possibly pull it off and make it innovative each time it's performed in concert with a few variations thrown in to make it diffrent again. It's not going to appeal to pop fans or even most rock fans, Peart, along with Rush bandmates Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee, have never been into recording music with a lot of orthodox melodies or pop sensibilities, rather hardcore progressive rock. THE RHYTHM METHOD benefits from being instrumental because the listener is not subjected to Geddy Lee's irritating high pitched howl. Nonetheless, if you can go 7 minutes without getting up to see how the kettle's going you have done well. Very sorry for the blurred image of Peart in this clip, maybe it's because he is drumming as fast as a bat would fly out of hell if Ozzie Osbourne was down there feelin' hungry.
