DAN REED NETWORK THE UNDISPUTED HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONS OF THE FUNKY WORLD

Despite becoming as uncool as buckle up boots as quickly as it gained swift popularity for a very brief time at the very end of the 80`s, funk metal on the odd occasion served to produce a few great party anthems and gave a number of minority appeal artists the oppurtunity to make it onto the Top 200 Billboard once in their life. One of the most convincing purveyors of this glammy and rather tacky genre of music was DAN READ NETWORK, whose self titled debut is arguably the best funk album of all time - rock or metal. The band was a 5 piece featuring a black guitarist, a jewish drummer, a japanese keyboard player & an italian american who played some instrument in the band, as well as the german, hawaiian and native american 3-in-one Dan Reed. Considered the most funky of the band's 4 polished albums, self titled has so many great tracks, including the keyboard led atmospheric TAMIN THE WILD NIGHTS, the steamy uproarous heavy rock guitar of RESURRECT and the rompathon of ROCK ME ALL NIGHT LONG, a title of a song which a very unoriginal Def Leppard plageurised for their song LETS GET ROCKED on their ADRENALIZE album. But the best song to me off the album is the very first single RITUAL, the intro is one of the most tantalisingly raunchy ones ever.
