GIVE TO LIVE : SAMMY HAGAR ROCK BALLAD FROM 1987
While writing the previous post about MONTROSE and the Sammy Hagar-less album WARNER BROTHERS PRESENTS, I took the oppurtunity to dig out the Hagar best of compilation I have which normally collects dust, titled SAMMY HAGAR - THE ESSENTIAL RED COLLECTION.
It's a great collection which certainly proves why Hagar was considered to be the only rocker capable of filling the vacancy left by DAVID LEE ROTH in VAN HALEN.
There are quite a number of songs which I had never listened to properly which actually really blow me away, like the song featured above, GIVE TO LIVE.

A perfectly executed and genuinely heavy rock ballad which I would rate higher than the much more celebrated Van Halen rock ballad WHEN IT'S LOVE which Hagar provided the vocals for on the 1988 VH album OU812.
Never really liked Hagar in Van Halen, he just never quite fitted the mould in that band, he was either too different to David Lee Roth or trying too hard to be David Lee Roth, the 1991 album FOR UNLAWFUL CARNAL KNOWLEDGE applying to the latter, but some of his solo output was better by far than anything Van Halen cooked up after 1985 or what Roth come along with on his solo albums.
GIVE TO LIVE comes off the one and only solo album which Hagar recorded while a member of Van Halen, I NEVER SAID GOODBYE was released in 1987 and produced by Eddie Van Halen.
