GLEN FREY AND TROY CASSAR-DALEY PUT ON A KILLER SHOW AT BRISBANE CONVENTION CENTRE

In keeping with my new style, format, whatever you might call it, shorter and sweeter where possible i guess is the best way to put it, i thought i would give a thumbs up on here to GLEN FREY and his australian country music support act TROY CASSAR-DALEY for what was apparently a killer show at the Brisbane Convention Centre earlier this week. Not quite sure if Cassar-Daley was just picked up for the Brisbane Show or if he supported the famous 'Eagle' for all his australian tour gigs but my brother and his son went to it and said both performers were brilliant. Cassar-Daley sold a heap of compact discs at his stand out in the Convention Centre foyer after the show i was told. Frey of course is one half of the most successful singer/songwriter partnerships in the history of american popular music, the other being Eagle drummer/vocalist DON HENLEY. Frey's 2012 album AFTER HOURS was his first solo studio outing in 20 years, but instead of the Eagles-eque rock that characterised his first four solo albums, AFTER HOUSES went off in a very diffrent tangent, and turned Frey from a rocker into a crooner. All songs bar the title track are covers of songs either written or co-written by BRIAN WILSON from THE BEACH BOYS and RANDY NEWMAN. Frey isn't quite Sinatra but it's captivating to see the guy who gave us HEARTACHE TONIGHT being such a sensitive new age guy. Included here is the official trailer for the AFTER HOURS album, and please, dont forget Troy Cassar-Daley either, buy both their albums because they're both fantastic artists.

Troy is a pretty nice guitar player, with his old Tele and 59 fender bassman,. . . .not my cup of tea , but gets some sweet tones out there.

  2. I rate Troy a bit higher mate, unlike most australian country bush balladeers and crooners he unashamedly wears a lot of un-country influences on his sleeve and he's actually very convincing dabbling in the blues. I saw him and 8 Ball Aitken play Hendrix's VOODOO CHILE down at Tamworth a few years ago and it was great.

Yep, he is one of those players who is easy to underrate because of the twanger thing he has going on much of the time,

the thing is the Old bassman is a loud amp, and i mean L O U D, when it's cranked to get those distorted tones, and troy definately has the chops to pull off some tasty playing, watching him rip up a hendrix number would have been awesome.
