SUPER SIZED VERSION OF 'WILD DOGS' FOR TOMMY BOLIN FANS
This song is an absolute collectors item for lovers of post Hendrix 70`s heavy rock guitar, and what's more, it's a super sized extended jam version of the classic original.
TOMMY BOLIN died in late 1976 at the young age of 25 from a drug overdose, but not before he had made it into the ranks of pioneering British heavy metal group DEEP PURPLE following the departure of founding member RICHIE BLACKMORE, and hung around long enough to record one of the Purp's most underated album, the more rhythm and blues influenced COME TASTE THE BAND in 1976.
Even though Bolin's input into this album resulted in Deep Purple making a refreshing departure from the forced and stilted funk rock of STORMBRINGER (1975) and an innovative diversion from the band's predictable metal formula, being in the Purps never gave Bolin the oppurtunity to let rip and play a guitar with the improvising brilliance he displayed on his pre-Purps solo output and with experimental groups ZEPHYR and THE JAMES GANG.
The song which most of his fans would rate as his best is the rollicking and freewheeling WILD DOGS, which comes off the TEASER album (1975). I had never heard this 13 minute version of the song before tonight, i had only ever heard the album version and a 5 minute demo version before this. This 13 minute WILD DOGS jam is the ultimate Tommy Bolin experience.
