Since this story was published in the Courier Mail back in mid March another infestation of T4 Panama fungus has been discovered around 160 kilometres away from where it was first detected in Tully. This is a very ominous sign as to what is very likely to happen from here on in.
From this moment on it would seem that Biosecurity Queensland will be playing catch up for many many years to come, the best case scenario will be if BQ is able to contain this insidious and destructive fungal soil borne disease enough to somehow keep a commercial banana industry in central and northern Queensland sustainable to some degree.
