As life expectancy continues to increase and more older Australians remain able bodied and capable of being in the paid workforce, you really have to wonder why a lot more employers would pull down the shutters on those in the over 50's age bracket and not at least give them a go.
Age discrimination against older jobseekers is rife and in natural fact it is stinging people who much younger than 50, the fact is once you hit middle age in Australia you are already much more likely to be overlooked by an employer for one obvious reason - it costs them quite a lot more per hour to employ an older worker than a youngster who only gets paid junior wages.
Naturally you can understand why any employer would be inclined to hire someone for a job who costs them less and not more. But what price could you ever put on the maturity, stability& overall real life experience that older people generally offer employers in comparison to the younger generation? Employers take note - if you pay peanuts so often you'll get monkeys in return.
