ADANI MUST BE KEPT IN CHECK AS GALILEE BASIN COAL GETS THE THUMBS UP
Queensland needs some development, it needs some mining, and yes contrary to the impractical pursuit of the Greens and various hardcore environmentalist groups, coal mining, at least for the next generation, has its place here and elsewhere in Australia.
If we don't have some of it, not only will Queensland become a banana republic which becomes even more bankrupt than it already is but we will also have a major power generation shortage.
The centrist compromise must be to reduce, not completely cull coal mining, and overall reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and move towards adopting renewable energy. No arguments there, but the Greens don't know the meaning of centrism.
Nonetheless, if you have been able to blank out all the hysteria of the Greens and their cohorts surrounding the proposed and soon to begin Carmichael coal mine in the Galilee Basin, which will be the biggest coal mine in the world, you might well have picked up on a very valid argument, an unusually rationale one, against the mine, which they have presented for many months.
That being the very dubious history of the mine's developer, ADANI, an Indian owned company which has certainly come up way short in terms of abiding by environmental guidelines and regulations with various other mining projects on this scale overseas. ADANI is a BIG worry in this regard, and it's very poor environmental record needs to be scrutinized by QLD premier Annastacia Palaszczuk before any further ado.
