LOUISIANA GUMBO ESSENTIAL LISTENING FOR LOVERS OF NEW ORLEANS

I am having to go You Tube-less for the time being, simply because my PC is knackered and i am relying on public computers at the library to get by at the moment until i get another computer or get my virus infected laptop cleaned out.

The perfect oppurtunity to write about an album which i doubt very much contains any songs which are on You Tube anyway, if you can find them good luck. Given that my patience level to track down You Tube videos has to be proportional at the moment to my limited timeframe with having access to a public computer, i may be wrong and i could be giving you a bum steer there (laugh).

It's the perfect all american deep south roots compilation album, called LOUISIANA GUMBO, and it was released on the PUTUMAYO WORLD MUSIC label in 2000. Some familiar names are present, like JOHNNY ADAMS and his tune IT AINT THE SAME THING and PERCY MAYFIELD with his namesake and rousing R&B anthem LOUISIANA.

The late prince of New Orleans piano JAMES BOOKER, who unfortunately made very few recordings during his shortened life, features on here with AFRICAN GUMBO, while the fun loving SNOOKS EAGLIN is tacked on the end of the album with the song NINE POUND STEEL.

The description on the album cover sums up the song list perfectly - A sizzling collection  of blues, soul and R&B from New Orleans and the bayous of Louisiana. A must have for anyone who loves fusion, melting pot music deep from the heart of Bourbon Street.
