DAVID LEE ROTH IN 'SLIGHTLY DIFFRENT' BIG TROUBLE

After leaving (or being sacked from) VAN HALEN, it was always going to be a tough ask for DAVID LEE ROTH to live up to the expectations which he set himself being the frontman for the greatest heavy rock guitar band in history, but with the help of STEVE VAI, who was technically more gifted than EDDIE VAN HALEN even if not as entertaining, he was able to re-capture some VH magic on his first full length solo album - EAT 'EM AND SMILE, released in 1986.

It has to rate as one of the meatiest guitar riffs he ever cranked out, but what Vai come up with for BIG TROUBLE is classic heavy rock guitar, better than anything that EVH or MICHAEL SCHENKER were ever even capable of playing - IMO.

Previously I have featured this song on my blog but here BIG TROUBLE is a rough and ready demo version, which has Roth sounding much more blasé and cruisey to start the song off and his vocals taper off much earlier in this version than the album one with Vai improvising at the end with no vocals from Diamond Dave.
