ALANNAH MYLES CHICK ROCK COULD BE LOUD AND RAUCOUS ONE SECOND AND SMOOTH AS BLACK VELVET THE NEXT

There is a stadium rock kind of album from the very end of the 80`s recorded by a Canadian chick rocker, which I think makes Blondie sound insipid and certainly stands alongside some of Pat Benatar`s greatest output.

It is the self titled debut by ALANNAH MYLES.

Jam packed with slickly produced and hard edged power pop and soft metal, Alannah got off to a flying start in her career which she never bettered.

The album is best remembered for throwing up the slow ballad BLACK VELVET, biting but silky smooth in equal portions and the more melodramatic tearjerker LOVER OF MINE.

The rockier songs have always been totally overlooked by radio, ones like the opener STILL GOT THIS THING and the slightly repetitive KICK START MY HEART, not to be confused with the Motley Crue song of the same name, and innovative pop-rock like JUST ONE KISS and my definitive favourite, ROCK THIS JOINT, one of the more rock`n `roll and under-produced sounding songs to speak of.

Alannah is totally mesmerizing with WHO
LOVES YOU, really seductive diva like
performance.

The formulaic LOVE IS had enjoyed some airplay years ago but not any longer. One of the better albums you will find from a chick rocker in the 80`s.
