TOOGOOLAWAH CORNER STORE ABOUT TO SHUT UP SHOP

Sad news to hear that the Toogoolawah Corner Store on the corner of Cressbrook and Dingyarra Street is going to shut in 6 days from now, the store has been around for as long as my mum can remember, which happens to be when she was a very young girl living outside of town in the Mt. Beppo district in the very late 40's and early 1950`s and use to come into town to visit her grandfather who lived barely 100 metres down the road.

Being a relative newcomer to town i do not know exactly what the shop's exact uses have been in the years between when my mum left the erea as a young girl in 1952 and today, but i take it that it's always been a very humble, simple and grassroots little shop like all those like it which sadly are a thing of yesteryear in the big city. When corner stores start closing in small country towns things are getting sad.

The shops main competitor in town nowadays has been the IGA mini-supermarket, which in more recent months extended its trading hours on the weekends and even tacked on an extra hour a day from a 6pm close to 7pm close.

I happen to know that this was the final nail in the coffin for the current owner of the shop, who perhaps in one last stand of defiance, has been networking for the past few months on facebook some specials on offer in a desperate bid it seems to salvage the shop from going down the shute. I know the current owner owns the building and wants to retire anyway given his age but it's still sad to see it go.
