DAVID GILMOUR WAS ON AN ISLAND FOR HIS 60TH BIRTHDAY BASH
Why the hell not i thought? Readership is down big time lately on my blog, no one is commenting like it always has been for the 3 years i have been writing on this baby, i got the flu, i feel like crap and i am feeling lazy, so like last night, i am just gonna stick a whole DAVID GILMOUR album on here and be done.
Have you heard of the three eggs, yeah two bad. That's my mum's joke by the way (laugh). Tim Badrick is never that short with anyone, so very quickly, allow me to say that Gilmour's 2006 solo album ON AN ISLAND is one of my favourite albums from a UK artist in the 21st century.
The songs on the album bear that same introspective and distant feeling of what you would hear on say the very last PINK FLOYD studio album DIVISION BELL, except ON AN ISLAND is a lot more convincing actually.
Apart from the songs A GREAT DAY FOR FREEDOM, a song telling the story of the fall of the Berlin Wall, and HIGH HOPES, you would have to say DIVISION BELL was as weak as water and very uninspiring.
Gilmour waited 12 years to redeem himself for the artistic nothingness he displayed on DIVISION BELL, and even if his wife wrote most of the album, like it has been rumoured since its release, ON AN ISLAND was a great comeback, and showcases some of Gilmour's most emotive guitar work ever, even if it's not a progressive masterpiece. The album was released smack bang on his 60th birthday on the 6th March, 2006.
