WOLF & CUB PLUS A FEW MARIJUANA COOKIES AND YOU`LL BE ALL SET FOR A PSYCHEDELIC MUSHROOM PARTY

When I bought the most recent Wolfmother album COSMIC EGG a year ago, I accidentally picked up an album which was in the wrong place on the CD shelf by a band called Wolf & Cub, obviously it was only slightly misplaced considering CD`s are in alphabetical order.

I probably should have found out which of the `wolf` bands were formed first `cause one of them could be accused of being not exactly original with the name of their band, but intuition tells me Wolf & Cub come along after the famous Wolfmother.

I decided to buy the Wolf & Cub album, it was only about $12, and the sci-fi imagery of the CD cover and the concept type song titles eluded to Wolf & Cub actually being similar to the loopy space age retro-psychedelically influenced blues power rock of Wolfmother.

As I found out, there is a vast difference between the style of the bands, perhaps the only thing which both bands share is a psychedelic kind of influence, although with Wolfmother it`s more of a rock thing and not pure psychedelia.

Wolf & Cub`s lyrics are very conceptual like Wolfmother`s is, but on those two points that`s where any similarity ends.

This Adelaide band, or least that`s where they started out, are full on practitioners of psychedelia, without much rock to pump it along.

The band has recorded a couple of albums as I found out later, the one I have is SCIENCE
and SORCERY from 2009. It is a heavy duty listen, I wouldn`t say it is bad just very ambiguous.

Unlike Wolfmother, the characters in the lyrics dont come to life and grab your attention, technically this album is probably what you would call innovative and a benchmark for Australian psychedelia.

If Wolfmother is out of stock you could buy this album if you want to have, in place of rock, some pure brain numbing psychedelia. All you will need as well is some marijuana cookies.
