THE ADVENTURES OF RAIN DANCE MAGGIE RECAPTURES THE `OL BLOOD SUGAR SEX MAGIK CHILLI PEPPER GROOVE

It`s not often I get the urge to put a brand new song on here, never in a million years did I think that the Red Hot Chilli Peppers would be the first band to tempt me to break with tradition by featuring a song which was recorded and released this decade (laugh). 

Yes this is the first review I have ever done on music post-2010. I have been listening to this song for ages now, well many weeks, while I have been out doing deliveries in the early hours of the morning. 

I am certainly not a big Red Hot Chilli Peppers fan, please dont chuck tomatoes at your computer screen with me on it for saying that OK.

They have had a few good songs over the years, mainly the ones off their 20 year old album from 1991, BLOOD SUGAR SEX MAGIK. 

My favourite three songs of the Peppers, besides this gem featuring on the clip above, are UNDER THE BRIDGE and SOUL TO SQUEEZE off that 1991 album and the poignant SAVE THE POPULATION. 

A great song that is, but to me for the past twenty years the Peppers have floundered and pumped out mostly convoluted material which has lacked variety and panache. 

In more recent times, the Peppers got a new guitarist, John Klinghoffer, and he has injected a bit of new life into the Chilli Peppers alternative funk rock sound.

Where was he about 15 years ago? Perhaps drummer Chad Smith`s involvement in the supergroup Chickenfoot, a band which has metallic virtuoso Joe Satriani as well as

Sammy Hagar as his co-members, has also necessitated that The Red Hot Chilli Peppers adopt somewhat of a more straight ahead funk rock direction, without all the alternative components, when you consider that Chad Smith is now more inclined to
hit the drums a bit harder and be more like John Bonham than he use to be in the Chilli Peppers.

No guitarist likes to be outdone by a drummer, THE ADVENTURES OF RAIN DANCE MAGGIE is one song off the new Chilli Peppers album where everyone is in synch with each other, and Josh Klinghoffer puts in a performance worthy of critical acclaim. 

The new Chilli Peppers album is called I`M WITH YOU, I have listened to the other songs off the album but they`re no where near as funky as this. Chilli Peppers fans can rejoice.
