For some inane reason for which only they would know they have, federal ALP senators recently voted down a Greens bill, which oddly enough reportedly was supported by LNP senators & environment minister Greg Hunt but deflected or ignored by crossbench senators, which would've seen the 'trade' of Dugong/sea turtle meat outside of OZ, and for that matter selling it for a profit - OUTLAWED.
All it really comes down to is federal Labor putting social rights and Native Title justice ideology and dogma even before conservation and voting to keep giving Aboriginals the right to hunt these highly endangered marine animals, classic example of Labor's oft times oxymoron Left versus Left contradictory internal factional mechanisms and face saving political correctness to please a minority appeal act.
The majority appeal act I would hope is most aussies wanting to see the Native Title Act amended to not only put a stop to the Dugong & sea turtle meat trade but also to have their slaughter outlawed completely. Some human rights lawyers working for Labor who don't give a damn about Dugong and sea turtles will obviously object but it's time to put conservation of both before Native Title ignorance and stupidity.
