Following the impending executions of Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, assuming they are not the beneficiaries of a miracle in the form of 11th hour mercy from Joko Widodo and his ultra-fundamentalist sidekick, the Indonesian attorney-general Muhammad Prasetyo, it probably would be fair to say that aussies shouldn't boycott the country, and in particular Bali, for a holiday destination, due to their execution, because as much as I don't agree with the death penalty the two men knew the risks, tempted fate, and made themselves a glutton for the ultimate punishment under Indonesia's ruthless anti-drug smuggling laws.
But you know what, I think aussies should do it for a very good reason which has
nothing to do with the Bali 9 ringleaders and their treatment, that being to protest against the Indonesian government for the ongoing decades long occupation of West Papua, formerly known as Irian Jaya.
The human rights abuses and genocide which is happening there under the radar of the mainstream media is appalling, and until Widodo acts to end it and at least pave the way for some form of autonomy to be granted to West Papua and to make sure all the killing, torture, rape and overall brutality by Indonesian thugs stops NOW for good, aussies should let him know it's simply not on by going somewhere else besides Indonesia for a holiday.
