JAMES HARMAN DOING THE CRAPSHOOT FOR OLD TIME'S SAKE
If I am going to continue on with this blog then I am going to go back to my '90's blues roots', because it will always be a pointless exercise as far as interaction and comments go, at the very least I have to derive some personal satisfaction about unearthing some real earthy and non-commercialized muse which 'I' want to give a plug to. CRAPSHOOT is my favourite song off the rather eccentric and conceptual blues album by harmonica maestro JAMES HARMAN called TAKIN' CHANCES, which was released way back in 1996.
This song and his rendition of OLD MAN EYES is worth the cost of the album on their own but the experimental tone of the rest of the album is not overcooked, and it still swings a great R&B and melodic blues hook throughout. Harman played the song here at the Ottawa Blues Fest in 2011 backed up by MONKEYJUNK, DAVE MAXWELL and the TEXAS HORNS. Harman played many years ago in the same band as another great but unsung hero of the blues - guitarist HOLLYWOOD FATS, whose 1979 album ROCK THIS HOUSE is just one awesome slab of blues and rock'n'roll.
