CLASSIC B-SIDE OF VAN HALEN OFF 1984 ALBUM

Back in the old days when DAVID LEE ROTH could still jump around on stage like a madman and EDDIE VAN HALEN was already the immortal king of heavy rock guitar VAN HALEN created some classic hard rock.

By the time their sixth album 1984 was released the signs were already on the wall that Roth's time in the band was nearing its end, thanks mainly to an intolerable personality clash between him and bass guitarist MICHAEL ANTHONY as well as his growing problem with the booze, which delayed production of the album for months on end.

However, despite the impending implosion of the Roth led VAN HALEN, the 1984 album proved to a major commercial success and artisticly IMO was the 3rd best of the Roth albums, behind the 1978 debut and 1981's FAIR WARNING.

JUMP of course was a worldwide smash hit and provided the band with their first No. 1 single in the US and various other countries, with PANAMA a lesser but still big selling hit.

There are a couple of fizzers on 1984, like the undercooked synthesizer ballad I'LL WAIT, a poor cousin of JUMP, but one little known forgotten B-side which I put in the same league as say PANAMA is the uproarious GIRL GONE BAD. Known a few of them in my time (laugh).

One of Eddie's best heavy rock guitar performances besides the totally unbeatable stuff he cooked up in 1978.
