SHORTEN'S PENALTY RATE HYPOCRISY PROVES HE ISN'T A TRUE LABOR WORKING CLASS LEADER

As far as representing, presenting and delivering on Labor's policy agenda, and having him hold the Turnbull government to account for its mistakes and wayward policies, Shorten is a chameleon, a real Jeckyl and Hyde.

As far as the contentious issue of penalty rates is concerned, and the Turnbull government's legislation to slash weekend penalty rates in the hospitality sector, you would expect an ex-ACTU union chief like Shorten to be resoundingly opposed to it.

But no - as usual just when you would expect Shorten to be the antithesis of the one time Goldman Sachs merchant banker who is now the prime minister, he and his union pals have been exposed as having blindsided the working class bedrock that Labor purportedly represents by "secretly" pursuing penalty rate cuts even more cut throat and extreme than what the Turnbull government has invoked.

The slinky and sly Bill Shorten who engages in clandestine deals with union heavies obviously is a  very different creature to the one who has used every media opportunity he could muster for many weeks to lambast Turnbull over the government's penalty rate legislation.

Seriously - if Shorten wants to effectively keep moonlighting for the Turnbull government in ideological terms on issues like penalty rates he ought to hand the Opposition Leader baton to someone who is genuinely pro-working class, as Labor leaders are supposed to be.
