JAY WEATHERILL LACKS PRAGMATISM ON ENERGY - JOSH FRYDENBERG LACKS VISION ON ENERGY
South Australia has one humongous energy crisis, and the other states could end up in the same boat very soon if state governments elsewhere don't get serious about building, revamping and remodelling the power generation infrastructure required in their state to meet current and projected energy demands.
Granted, South Australia's premier Jay Weatherill is trying, he is thinking big and outside the square to tackle his state's energy crisis.
Weatherill is proposing to build one or more gas fired power stations in South Australia.
His much more innovative idea is to build a whopping big battery to store power procured from renewable energy generation sources. Not a stupid idea, just not the most practical one.
If there is anything that the other state leaders can learn from Weatherill, including Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, it is that they shouldn't put all their energy eggs in one basket.
It can't be disputed that coal has to remain the forerunner in power generation in Australia if mass power shortages are to be averted.
Renewable energy on its own won't cut it, it can't even come close to meeting rock bottom energy demand in any well populated region in Australia.
Coal fired power is here to stay for a long time to come yet.
So if the technology has been developed to make it possible like it almost assuredly has been, now's the time, no not in 5, 10 or 20 years time, for every government in Australia to get behind clean coal power generation.
