WALTER TROUT AND POPA CHUBBY PERFORMING SOME HENDRIX

One of my favourite 'party rock' albums of all time isn't a KISS album, a POISON album or a VAN ALBUM album. It's a JIMI HENDRIX album, only thing Jimi was already dead nearly 30 years when it was recorded around late 1999. The album was in fact just one half of a twin release of two seperate Hendrix tribute albums on the little known german label RUF RECORDS, one being more directed towards straight out rock and the other one showcasing a lot more in the way of his proto-pyroctechnic blues output.

Unfortunately I never had the chance to hear or buy the rock album tribute, but a long time ago, up there at Sunflower Music at Garden City (long since closed down), i snapped up the latter - titled BLUE HAZE SONGS OF JIMI HENDRIX. Of the 16 songs on there, there are some nondescript fillers admittingly, like a uninspiring reprise of Hendrix's famous WOODSTOCK performance of STAR SPANGLED BANNER, but all in all it's a great party rock interpretation of Hendrix's complicated chords.

Love ERIC CALES' and TRUDY LYNN's cover of VOODOO CHILE and this one in particular - WALTER TROUT teaming up with POPA CHUBBY to perform WHO KNOWS, a little known Hendrix song. Nothing on this album would make you do cartwheels like listening to JIMI HENDRIX himself and his AXIS: BOLD AS LOVE album from 1968 but it makes better background music around the pool or BBQ when you dont want to scare your guests off.
