JANIS JOPLIN FOREVER THE PEARL OF HIPPIE FLOWER POWER ROCK

JANIS JOPLIN was like BUDDY HOLLY in a very special but ironically very tragic way - she was revolutionary, she dared to push the musical boundaries to the limit and she was given only a brief life to create a timeless slab of music which has stood the test of time and like Holly's 50's rock been monumentally influential on so many artists,

Anyone from CAROLE KING, TINA TURNER, CHER, COURTNEY HOLE, PAT BENATAR, the list goes on and on, all took their cue or were at least heavily inspired by Joplin, who become just another tragic statistic in the world of showbiz after dying from a heroin overdose on October 4th, 1970, during the final mixing of her very last album PEARL.

Joplin never sounded better than when she performed live, it really brought out the blues fire in her vocals, here are two of her very best, the famous cover of KRIS KRISTOFFERSON's ME AND BOBBY MCGHEE and my absolute favorite Joplin tune - TO LOVE SOMEBODY, which unbeknown to many people was written by ROBIN and BARRY GIBB of THE BEE GEES. Both are live and really crank.
