BE ENCHANTED BY THE EMMA STEVENS RIPTIDE

EMMA STEVENS was just one of those on the fringe of mainstream success but still obscure artists who popped up on my Twitter page by accident who i knew straight away i was just meant to discover out of the blue, and would never stop liking. Emma just about qualifies as being more of a multi-instrumentalist than STEVE WINWOOD - try guitar, ukelele, banjo, mandolin and piano.

Generally most of my 'new discoveries' in music come from the deep south melting pot of southern U.S.A, where blues, soul, jazz and funk effortless collide, not very often would an english chick with just an acoustic guitar in hand make me go WOW, and especially not someone who's more into folk picking than heavy rock guitar.

But what i see as major similaraties between who i regard as the greatest ever folk and on occasions soul and blues singer of all time EVA CASSIDY and herself,  i cant help but be ENCHANTED, which happens to be the title of her 2013 album, by EMMA STEVENS. Unlike LAURA WARWICK she doesn't swear her head off on Twitter (laugh), and unlike SUSAN BOYLE, she can make you laugh as well as cry.

EMMA STEVENS has released a number of EP's, which were the appetiser for her critically acclaimed album ENCHANTED. The absolute stand out song is the winsome and joyous pop romp RIPTIDE, the first track, the rest of the album generally takes on a more melodramatic bent but unlike most folk artists Emma doesn't make the mistake of writing songs which are too self indulgent and too much about herself. She writes folk and pop songs which are rich in musicianship but are still joyful and inspiring without being complex.
